  • 17th World Congress of Food Science and Technology & Expo  was held  here in Montreal from Aug. 17-21, 2014 . This international event happens only every 2 years in different cities of different countries. McGill University students participated and volunteered in the conference. IUFoST- World Food Congress  Conference theme this year is “Feeding the World”, and they asked the students to come up with an idea that go along with the theme and how to bring it to the local level.  Food and Science Technology students of McGill University lead by Bernie Tee, who always do this project started the campaign. The students totally engaged the World Food Congress by organizing a huge  Food Drive by collecting  canned goods and will be donated to the First Food Bank  of Quebec founded in 1984, the Moission Montreal. And to make more fun in it, they challenge to break the record of Guinness Longest Line of  Food Cans. Their target was 30,000 canned goods. They started the line last Sunday, Aug, 17, 2014 and the counting and announcement happens Wednesday , Aug. 20 at 1:45 Pm.  Indeed, they surpassed their target and collected  44,966 canned goods that reached 3.28 Km. These goods will be delivered to Moisson Montreal  at 5:00 Pm of the same date.Supporting partners were  Tourism Montreal and Moisson Montreal. Clark and Cordon Blue were the main  sponsors. Yes ! 2014 World Food Congress was successful and  Canada broke the Guinness Book of Records  while tremendously answered this years’ theme .Great job McGill students. After awarding the Certificate of Recognition , Mr. Rickey Yada, Congress Co-Chairman of the IUFoST Governing  Council, from the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada announced a big Food Congress  will be held in Manila, Philippines next year. [easymedia-gallery med=”1143″ filter=”1″]
