AFP Chief to grace Gingoog City fiesta
GINGOOG CITY, Philippines (May 19, 2014) — For the first time in many decades, an Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff will grace the Annual Fiesta Celebration, here on May 21-22, 2014 in honor of the patron St. Rita de Cascia.
Gen. Emmanuel T. Bautista will fly from Metro Manila via Cagayan de Oro City to witness the various fiesta activities, here foremost of which is the grandest of its kind “Lubi-Lubi Festival Street Dancing Competition” passing along major thoroughfares using attires made from almost all parts of the coconut tree, attracting more domestic and foreign tourists.
This historic visit of Bautista, currently the only four-star General of the Philippines busied by his role in the Aquino Administration at resolving the country’s numerous security woes including China’s bullying at the Spratlys in the West Philippine Sea, is expected to draw more attention and attraction to the city well-known of its natural treasures dubbed as “The City of Good Luck,” “The City of Waterfalls,” and recently as “Vacation City.”
The Lubi-Lubi Festival is just one of the big events being lined up by the city government for this year’s fiesta activities which also include among others the “Battle of the Bands” and the Grand Finals of the grandest singing contest, here dubbed as “Stairway to the Stars.” (by LOR VILLA ENCENZO)
