Filipino language Play, Entry to Quebec International Theater Festival 2019

International Festival De Theatre De Mont-Laurier 9th edition was held in the province of Quebec on Sept. 5-11,2019, at Espace Theatre Mont-Laurier, 543 rue du Pont , Mont- Laurier. The festival was participated by 23 out of 25 theatrical group from 16 out of 20 expected countries. One of the entry was from the Philippines, the Be Our Guest Theatrical’s “13th of September”. A drama (dula) performed in tagalog with flashing English translation. Congratulations to Director Rommel V. Benedicto; Stage Manager –Jeanne Katreen B. Dela Cruz; Production Designer Jay Lorenze C. Conanan; Marketing Jose O. Tolentino; Production Manager Romylyn D. Perreras; Comediens Dominador Jr. C. Domingue, Marco Edward F. Calilao and Paolo V. Rodriguez, and for Tech – Jeremy Jade Abendan and Raf Andrew B. Espenocilla, for a well performed, artistic and creative props, good switching for a multi character role that made it standing ovation from the audience. Worth the three hours trip from Montreal.

The 13th of September is a re-imagination of Lanie Robertson’s one act play “The Insanity of Mary Gerard” was shown Sept. 9,2019, Monday scheduled for The Philippines. This is the second year of participation of the Director. The first was year 2015, Dir. R. V. Benedicto said that “13th of September was suppose to be shown in Polytechnic University of Philippine (PUP) but the event was cancelled so that he connected with the organizer here in Quebec Festival and submit the play as entry for this year. The host provided them free of food and accommodation, transportation and other expenses was shouldered by the delegates.  CPRM together with Filipino Association in Montreal and Suburbs Inc. (FAMAS) officers and few Filipinos residing in the Up North were there to support the delegates. PM David Graham of Laurentides–Labelle Ridings together with her Filipina wife was there to support the event too. After the show the Filipino delegates came down to Montreal and was well accommodated by Mr. Cesar Manuel, FAMAS President and were tour guided by Directors Ramon Vicente and Svetlana Suarez in strolling Montreal beautiful City.

According to PM David Graham, there were more or less 50 Filipino residents base on the census lately living in his Ridings of which only 15 was met by him personally and was invited to come to this festival. Espace Theater Mont Laurier was chosen to be the venue of show since this was the best and could accommodate the big number of the delegates coming from sixteen countries. Theater festival is a regular event in Quebec which is being participated by different countries to boost tourism which the main source of economic activity aside from the forestry  industry in this part of the province.
