QUEBEC CITY, April 30, 2014 / CNW Telbec / – The Minister of Labour and Minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale, Mr. Sam Hamad , announced that the general minimum wage in Quebec will be $ 10.35 on 1 st May, an increase of $ 0.20 per hour.
The minimum wage payable to employees gratuity will be increased by $ 8.75 to $ 8.90 per hour. With respect to the minimum wage payable to workers in certain sectors of the clothing industry, it will be increased from $ 10.15 to $ 10.35.
Some 345,000 people will benefit from the increase in the general minimum wage rate, nearly 213,000 women. In Quebec, more than nine out of ten employees minimum wage work in the service sector, such as hotels, restaurants or retail.
In the horticultural sector, harvesters raspberries and strawberries continue to be paid to the performance for the next year. The minimum wage rate for harvesters raspberries increase from $ 2.98 to $ 3.04 per kg and $ 0.79 to $ 0.81 per kg for strawberry pickers.
A committee was formed to study the issue of compensation for fruit pickers and its impact on producers. It is composed of representatives of the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Commission on Labour Standards and the agricultural community.
